CFIA-Undeclared Allergens and Gluten in Hot Drink and Instant Coffee Mixes - 2020-2021

​The main objective of this survey was to obtain additional information regarding the presence and levels of undeclared allergens and gluten in hot drink and instant coffee mixes. Of the 293 samples tested, 7 samples were found to contain undeclared gluten and/or allergens such as beta-lactoglobulin (BLG), casein, soy and hazelnut. A single hot chocolate product containing BLG and casein was deemed to represent a health risk and was recalled.
